Don't Let The Digital Revolution Pass You By!

The Digital ToolKit - the promised follow-up to last year's programme of freelance training days in the North West of England, organised by BECTU, the NUJ, Equity and the Manchester Digital Development Agency (MDDA) - has arrived. Download the leaflet herehttp://www.feutraining.org.uk/files/digital_toolkit.pdf
The Digital Toolkit offers short courses in a range of skills aimed at helping media freelances benefit from the rapid technological change affecting their work. You can learn how to create your own website, research on the internet, write for the web, work in a multi-platform environment, use social networks, and make video and audio podcasts. Find out about Twitter and Facebook, how to Google better, work in teams, and make better use of sound and video online. We'll even give you your own website and help you get it up and running in a day. And lunch is on us.

The Toolkit project is being coordinated by BECTU on behalf of the participating unions - BECTU, the NUJ, Equity, the Musicians' Union and the Writers' Guild. All the participating unions are affiliated to the Federation of Entertaiunment Unions (FEU) and the project is supported by the North West TUC's Learning and Skills for All Fund. It is aimed exclusively at freelance members of the five unions in the region. We are working closely with MDDA and will hold all the courses this year at their fully-accessible training suites in central Manchester. Due to refurbishment at MDDA, the two remaining courses, in 2010, will be at St Anthony’s Centre in Trafford Park. Have a look at the leaflet (http://www.feutraining.org.uk/files/digital_toolkit.pdf) which gives details of the courses and how to book your place on-line - or go straight to http://www.feutraining.org.uk/2009.php to view course outlines, download the leaflet and book your place.
Thanks to all the union members who completed our survey and supplied the information which helped shape the content of the courses. You may recall that we offered free attendance at one of the Digital Toolkit courses in a prize draw. The winner was Fiona Collins, an independent film-maker from St. Anne's-on-Sea, Lancashire. Congrats. We're looking forward to hearing from NUJ members soon. If you have any queries at all, please contact John Crumpton direct. John is BECTU's North West training officer and the manager for this project.
